LISBON WALKING TOUR
Our walking tour begins in the Rossio Square where the story of one of the deadliest earthquakes in European history will be told.
We then make our way towards the site of a dark period in Portugal’s history – the Massacre of the Jews and the Portuguese Inquisition.
Continuing to the Figueira Square, the Phoenician and Roman influence on life in Olisipo or Felicitas Julia, as Lisbon was then called, will be highlighted.
Continuing our route, the heritage of the Moors is evident before the castle was retaken by the first king of Portugal in 1147.
It is time now to make our way through the narrow streets of Lisbon’s traditional Fado District, the Mouraria, towards the castle. There will be a coffee stop at one of the viewpoints over the “Baixa” (downtown Lisbon) before continuing past the castle and down through Alfama district, where the narrow streets and staircases reflect village life within the city.
Once again at sea level, we make our way back to the Rossio Square, passing by the unique Casa dos Bicos – The House of the Pointed Stones - now home to the Foundation of the Portuguese Nobel Prize Winner for Literature, José Saramago .
DURATION: 3-4 hours, depending on coffee stops, photograph stops and the pace of the slowest walker.
COST: €120.00 per private tour. (Entrance fees not included).
BOOKINGS: Eva Sanches. Email: [email protected]. Mobile: (+ 351) 917 300 345.
